A core team of instructors and practitioners conduct the following ongoing classes and practices that contribute to health and well-being of the whole person—mind, body and spirit. To learn more about them and their areas of expertise please refer to our Instructors/Practitioners page.

YOGA

One of Odyssey Center’s primary aims is to bring yoga to the community. For those of you who are beginners or have never even been to a yoga class, we especially welcome you. Our teachers are experienced in working with young adults to elder adults, whatever the level of experience, and are skilled in working with physical limitations requiring modifications in practice.

  1. YOGA FOR EVERYONE
    A Yoga practice for all ages and all bodies. No previous experience required. The practice will be chair based with some standing poses – options to practice on mat will also be offered. An excellent opportunity for everyone to be able to reap the huge benefits that Yoga provides.
  2. YOGA: VINYASA SLOW FLOW
    A flowing Yoga practice placing emphasis on all aspects of Yoga – breath and movement coordination, strength building, targeting specific body areas and some elements of aerobics. Beginners are very welcome (flexibility is NOT a pre-requisite for practicing Yoga)
  3. YOGA : FLOW AND YIN COMBINATION
    This practice includes typical Vinyasa flow along with Yin style Yoga (longer holds of poses with each pose targeting a specific area of the body) Beginners are very welcome.
  4. CHAIR YOGA:  A class dedicated to the use of a chair and other props for support. Many of the benefits achieved through standard poses may be realized with the use of supports. This class is a good choice for beginners, for those who may have had an injury, or who have one or more limitations otherwise.
  5. MEDITATION AND PRANAYAMA (BREATHING TECHNIQUES)
    Various types of meditation will be practiced including–
    Guided meditation – visual and complete body relaxation
    Chanting (mantra) and music meditation
    Medical meditation – yoga poses with mindfulness
    Yoga Nidra – deep relaxation and healing

Meditation

Meditation sessions are conducted weekly by individuals who have an established personal meditation practice and are experienced in facilitating meditation groups. A class to introduce the practice of meditation is offered upon request. On occasion guest teachers will  conduct classes or workshops on particular aspects of meditation to deepen one’s practice.

Therapeutic Massage

Traditional Thai, Hot Stone and Prenatal Massage

Structural Energetic Therapy: rehabilitation from chronic pain caused by imbalances in the body’s structure. This therapy uses techniques to release old structural patterns that cause painful conditions and dysfunction, facilitating improved alignment, balance and healthy functioning.

Drumming: Hand Percussion and Drum Kit/Stick Drumming

Dr. Arvin Scott brings the moving experience of hand drumming, percussion, and instruction in drum kit to Odyssey Center, offering group classes on Monday afternoon.

Community Drum Circle

On the first Friday of each month beginning December 2018, Odyssey Center offers the opportunity for people to gather to move to and be moved by the rhythm of the drum. No experience necessary, just join in with your own unique beat. Bring your own drum if you have one, as well as shakers, tambourines, plastic bottles filled with seeds, plastic buckets turned upside down….you get the picture. It’s all about getting into the rhythm of life and having a good time together.

Children are welcome—they are good reminders of how to move and groove in ways we adults may have forgotten!
